No defining line divides the mind of the main character as she grapples with her role in a terrible accident. The story, rooted in the American South, challenges her husband’s net worth in an unfolding dramatic manner. She must read between the lines of her own narrative, until the truth sets you free into a journey of friendship, love, and redemption.
A profoundly well-written story, Dawn Reno Langley has carved both steely will and pure heart in broad strokes.

WHAT READER ARE SAYING

"Analyzing the Prescotts" takes the reader on an emotional journey as we follow a family imploding. Dawn Reno Langley artfully explores gender identity and, through her storytelling, shows us our heart is what matterthat most. With a twist at the end I did not see coming, Langley offers a glimpse into what the best of humanity can be.

I read this book and didn’t want to put it down. It skillfully follows the psychoanalysis of a fractured family dealing with a shocking revelation. Written in the therapist’s point of view, it is fascinating to read. I hope there is a sequel.

Each of the characters in The Mourning Parade captures the heart, especially the ellies. A beautifully powerful story about love, loss, and the bonds of motherhood.

Dr. Natalie DeAngelo, a North Carolina Veterinarian, is still suffering from PTSD after a year of therapy trying to deal with the loss of both of her young sons in a school shooting.

Why I Wrote This Book

Dawn Reno Langley · Author, Fulbright Scholar, TEDx Speaker

A horrible accident brings together Everett, Massachusetts’ first Black police officer, Graham Jackson, and abused wife, Beth Robbins, and ironically, helps Beth realize who she is, both as a woman and an artist. As the police investigate the accident and the victim lies in a hospital bed, Beth and Graham both realize their feelings for each other and fight their attraction for each other.

I wrote The Mystic to explore what might have happened behind the scenes after my seven-year-old sister was the victim of a hit-and-run. The creation of Beth’s story took on a life of its own, and I found myself examining the ways guilt either destroys people or makes them stronger. The tale is not only an ode of grief, but also the celebration of the human spirit.
